STUdents Reflect on Impactful Internships at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery
Students Laura Thai and Charlotte James gained valuable hands-on experience through their internships at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery – inspiring their future careers and building meaningful connections with professionals.
Through the Office of Experiential Learning, the STU Internship Program offers students the opportunity to connect their disciplinary and professional experiences, become career-ready, and build community connections for future job or graduate school applications, all while completing their Bachelor of Arts.
"I've had the opportunity to feel confident that I am on the right track to my dream career" – Charlotte James
Charlotte James, a third-year Anthropology STUdent and aspiring art curator, gained exposure to the day-to-day operations of the gallery and expanded her professional network as the Institutional Advancement Intern.
"Through my internship, I've had the opportunity to befriend and network with curators and feel confident that I am on the right track to my dream career," said Charlotte, who is originally from Seattle, Washington.
During her internship, Charlotte assisted with events and communicated with gallery members. She also had the opportunity to attend the Atlantic Provinces Art Gallery Association conference, meeting curators from Atlantic Canada.
"To be in a room filled with people I hoped to one day become was an impactful moment for me," said Charlotte.
"Without this internship, I would not have the same insider knowledge I do now. I am privileged to work alongside people who inspire me in my undergrad."
"Internships are one of the best ways to figure out what you love doing" – Laura Thai
Fourth-year Communications and Public Policy and Digital Media and Creative Arts STUdent Laura Thai had the opportunity to combine her passions in her role as the Marketing and Communications Intern.
"Internships are a great way to see how your degree applies to the real world, discover new interests, and build your skills. They are one of the best ways to figure out what you love doing," said Laura, who is originally from Hanoi, Vietnam.
"Working at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery has shown me how communications can make art more accessible and exciting for everyone. The experience has inspired me to continue exploring careers that combine creativity, storytelling, and community connection."
During her internship, Laura had the opportunity to create video content, social media posts, and event promotions, and to assist with designing visuals for upcoming exhibitions.
