“I found my voice as a teacher” – Matthew Milne, BEd’25, on his Experience at STU

Matthew Milne, BEd’25, is ready to begin his teaching career at Leo Hayes High School this fall after a transformative experience in the Bachelor of Education program.
“I’ve gained a terrific work ethic, really preparing me for my career. Every aspect of STU’s Bachelor of Education program felt like it was preparing me for the teaching field in some way,” said Milne.
“My time at STU was a positive, holistic experience in which I found my passion for teaching and made many close friends along the way.”
Milne, originally from Fredericton, will be teaching Human Physiology and Grade 9 Science in the fall. He credits his preparedness to the structure of the BEd program and his experiences in his two practicum field placements, where he had the opportunity to teach upper-level elective science in high school and grade 6 math.
“The Bachelor of Education program was rigorous and incredibly rewarding,” said Milne.
“The contrast between the environments in my practicums gave me a greater understanding of learning development and helped me find my voice as a teacher. The practicums truly put you to the test.”
Choosing STU
Milne decided to pursue a career in Education due to the academic challenges he faced growing up. He chose STU’s Bachelor of Education because of its prestigious reputation for producing excellent teachers.
“I had a difficult time in school and always felt like I was falling behind. I know what it’s like to struggle in a system not built for you,” said Milne.
“I want to help other kids see that their passions are within their reach. As a middle secondary graduate in the BEd program, my courses helped me to develop the important tools I need.”
