FAQs
How do I know where to find my degree requirements?
Your general program requirements can be found in section 2 of your Academic Calendar, whether you are completing a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Applied Arts or a Certificate program.
How do I know what I need for my majors and minors?
Major and Minor requirements differ from subject to subject, so you want to be sure you are consulting your Academic Calendar for the particular requirements. Choose the calendar of the year you started at STU, and look for Section 6 – the Major, Minor and Honours requirements are broken down for each individual subject.
When and how should I send in my audit form?
Degree Audits help you work through your requirements to ensure you’re not missing anything you need to graduate. If you submit your degree audit to Academic Advising, we can help confirm your findings and highlight any areas of concern. You’ll want to send your audit before your final semester or academic year in case you need to make changes to your course selections to account for anything you might be missing.
If you are applying for May graduation, you want to send your audit form no later than November 1 to ensure that there is time for it to be reviewed by an Advisor before your final semester. You would complete the PDF Form that is available on the Registrar’s Office website, save the file with your information and send it as an email attachment to advising@stu.ca.
I’m not sure how to complete the audit form – what should I do?
The degree audit first takes you through your general degree requirements, and then breaks down your Majors and Minors. Using your Academic Calendar and a copy of your transcript, check where you stand with these general requirements, and fill in the classes you have taken that complete specific requirements for your degree.
If you are unsure of what format to use, you can review this sample degree audit.
If you have any particular concerns or are unsure of something, you can list these in the comment section at the end of the form. Do not worry if there is anything you’re unsure about, as an Advisor will be reviewing it.
I’m a transfer student – how do I work my transfer credits into my audit?
Your transcript will show your transfer credits on it, so you can input these classes into your audit the same as you would your STU classes! If they are covering specific graduation requirements for you, enter them into the corresponding boxes on your audit form. If you’re unsure, or if your classes require further explanation, you can write a note in the additional comments section and an Advisor will look into it further upon submission.
My Department Chair is allowing me to count something towards my Major or Minor that isn’t listed in my Academic Calendar – how do I let you know?
If your degree contains any deviations from the requirements that are listed in the Academic Calendar, these would need to be approved by your Department/Program Chair. The written approval can be sent to the Registrar’s Office or an Academic Advisor. You should also make a note in the additional comments section of your degree audit.
Is there a graduation fee?
No, there is no fee to apply for graduation.
