Dr. Meister’s teaching and research interests are in the histories and politics of colonialism, “race,” “whiteness,” immigration, and multiculturalism in Canada. He is the author of The Racial Mosaic: A Pre-History of Multiculturalism (MQUP, 2021), which was a finalist for both the 2022 John W. Dafoe Book Prize and the L.R. Wilson Institute for Canadian History 2022 Wilson Book Prize and was named one of the “Books of the Year” by Quill and Quire. He also retains an interest in biography as a historical methodology and, with David Veltman, was a co-founding editor of H-Biography and the co-editor of Biography Across the Digitized Globe (Brill, 2025). A prolific author and committed public historian, he has published numerous articles for academic and general audiences, including pieces in Active History, the Canadian Encyclopedia, the Dictionary of Canadian Biography, the Walrus, and the Winnipeg Free Press. Dr. Meister currently serves on the executive of the Canadian Historical Association as the English-Language Secretary, and he is also the co-editor of Intersections, the CHA’s magazine.
