How might different voting systems have changed New Brunswick’s elections? Using past results, opinion polls, and the proposals of the 2004 and 2017 commissions, Dr. Laura Levick explores different outcomes that might have occurred under a mixed-member proportional model or a ranked ballot. These “what if” scenarios show how reform could affect the party system, regional voices, and voter choice, highlights the opportunities and trade-offs of that come from changing how we vote, and what those choices might mean for the future of democracy in New Brunswick.
