Dr. Barbara Perry on "Trump Redux: Implications for Hateful Narratives and Action"

7:00 PM
Kinsella Auditorium
Dr. Barbara Perry will deliver the lecture, "Trump Redux: Implications for Hateful Narratives and Action," as part of the Endowed Chair Lecture in Criminology on March 13 at 7:00 pm in the Kinsella.
"Although it is early days in Donald Trump's second presidency, we are already seeing signs of the ways in which his populist, divisive and often hateful rhetoric and policies are exacerbating the public manifestations of hate," Dr. Perry says. "Implicitly and explicitly, he signals the legitimacy of exclusionary discourse and action domestically and internationally. His blatant efforts to quash opposition and to freeze conversations grounded in progressive perspectives has emboldened both policy makers and members of the public to express similar sentiments in often dangerous and damaging ways."
In her lecture, Dr. Perry will consider the impacts of these trends for Canada specifically, exploring the ways in which his first three months in office have already shifted public debate and policy in this country.
