Black History Month: Dance Workshop

5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Sir James Dunn Hall Room G5
Join us for a high-energy dance workshop with STU alumni, Scholastic Soares on Monday, February 24. Embrace Black culture through movement, music, and rhythm.
The Afro Hip-hop Dance provides an opportunity for cultural exploration and appreciation, allowing individuals to connect with the rhythms and sounds of Africa. Beyond the sheer enjoyment of movement, the workshop fosters an understanding of the historical and cultural contexts embedded in African dance forms. Moreover, they encourage a sense of inclusivity and unity, as participants collectively engage in rhythmic expressions that transcend linguistic and cultural barriers.
This event is brought to you by the Black Student Association, the African and Caribbean Students Club, and the Cultural Diversity Coordinator’s office.
About Scholastic Soares
Meet Scholastic Soares, originally from Tanzania, Africa, but now a Canadian resident since 2001. In her middle school days, dance became Scholastic's go-to for self-expression and an escape from reality, particularly within her church community. The transformative impact of dance on her mind, body, and soul became a profound part of her life.
With a versatile dance background covering contemporary, hip hop, and AfroDance, Scholastic brings a wealth of experience to her role as a dance instructor. She plans to impart a blend of Afrodance and hip hop, sharing her passion for dance and cultural expression with participants.
Scholastic is also a St Thomas University alumni, she completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree and her Bachelor of Social Work at STU.
