Monika was born in a small town in Poland, where many of her family members continue to farm. Before coming to STU, Monika was a McCain Foundation postdoctoral fellow at Dalhousie University, where she focused on examining how agri-food industry measures social sustainability. She also completed a Mitacs Accelerate postdoctoral fellowship at Saint Paul University where she focused on the role of civil society actors in food systems governance. During her postdoctoral fellowships, she worked closely with the Food Communities Network and Food Secure Canada on several projects.


Monika has been teaching since 2012 at various universities and colleges including, Toronto Metropolitan University, Trent University, University of Guelph, Ontario Tech University and St. Lawrence College. She also taught for a semester in Yangling, China. Monika aims to incorporates universal design for learning (UDI) principles in her teaching by fostering an inclusive environment, encouraging critical thinking, maintaining open communication with students, and encouraging them to find passion in their work.
