Robin C. Whittaker teaches dramatic literature courses in Canadian, Modern, and Twentieth-Century theatre; theatre theory and criticism; and Research Methods in English.

 

His current research and publishing activity focuses on nonprofessionalizing theatre practices in Canada. His book Alumnae Theatre Company: Nonprofessionalizing Theatre in Canada (UTP 2024) explores the first one hundred years of North America’s longest-running women-led theatre company in the context of the professionalization of theatre in English-speaking Canada. He is co-creator of the verbatim play No White Picket Fence (Talonbooks 2019), editor of Hot Thespian Action! Ten Premiere Plays from Walterdale Playhouse (AUP 2008), founding editor of STU Reviews: Where Fredericton Follows Theatre, and past Artistic Producer and Faculty Advisor for Theatre St. Thomas (2014-19). Since 2013 he has served on the Board of the Canadian Association for Theatre Research (CATR), of which he was elected President in 2022.
