SCHOLARSHIPS 


Joan McFarland Scholarship in Political Economy


Students are invited to apply for a $3,000 scholarship in Political Economy.

 

Criteria:

Awarded annually to a student in their fourth year who has the highest GPA in Political Economy courses taken*. Preference will be given to students marginalized by gender: women, trans and non-binary. Further preference will be given to students who are not already in receipt of a major scholarship.

*Political Economy courses counted:


Econ 2153, Political Economy I, and at least three of the following courses:

Econ 2203 Community Economic Development

Econ 2213 Contemporary Economic Issues

Econ 2223 Political Economy of Women

Econ 2303 Gender in the Global South: A Political Economy Approach

Econ 3153 Political Economy II

Econ 3233 Marxian Economics

Econ 3333 Perspectives on Underdevelopment

Econ 3443 New Brunswick Economy
 

Application Process:


Students entering their fourth year are to complete and submit a Student Scholarship Application form to the Registrar’s Office by May 15. To be given preference, indicate in your letter if you are a student who is marginalized by gender. You are not required to specify whether you are a woman, trans or non-binary.

 

Funded annually by the Joan McFarland Endowment, donated by retired Department of Economics faculty member, Dr. Joan McFarland.

The first Joan McFarland Scholarship in Political Economy will be given for the 2020-2021 academic year. The deadline to apply is May 15, 2020. See the application form over. The form is also available online on the STU website.

The recipient will be selected by the Department of Economics. The first prize recipient will be selected in May 2020.
