Susan Reid

PROFESSOR
Susan Reid is a Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice where she teaches courses on youth justice and “ at-risk” children and youth , crime prevention, youth justice policy and child and youth rights. She is the Director of the Centre for Research on Youth at Risk and the adult ally to the youth-led organization at St. Thomas known as Youth Matters. The Centre is the Eastern hub of the Students Commission of Canada/Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement.She is best known for her applied research with youth in secure custody facilities where she was instrumental in implementing a chapter of Youth Matters within the only provincial correctional facility for youth in New Brunswick. She is the author, with Rebecca Bromwich and Sarah Gilliss of Youth and the Law: New Approaches to Criminal Justice and Child Protection (2015). She is the co-editor with Karla O’Regan, Thinking about Criminal Justice in Canada (2013) and with Marc Alain and Ray Corrodo of Implementing and Working with the Youth Criminal Justice Act across Canada, forthcoming fall 2015 with University of Toronto Press. Dr. Reid arrived at St. Thomas University in 1997 from a series of teaching appointments at the University of Guelph (1985-1997) and continues to enjoy the students at this small liberal arts university.
