Community and Government Affairs

Studying the liberal arts encourages you to think critically about the world, a skills which leads many of our grads to careers in community and government affairs. AT STU, opportunities abound for you to get involved with issues you are passionate about and make a difference.

 

Academics

You can learn about how local and global organizations operate by studying History, Political Science, International Relations, Communications and Public Policy, and Law, Politics and Society — among other fields.

Every department at STU sheds light on an aspect of society that requires thought, care, and action. Study what you’re passionate about to carve out an area of interest for yourself.

Clubs

The diversity of positions within the Students’ Union affords you with countless opportunities to represent your peers and learn about how societies, organizations, and governing bodies work. Enactus, Global Brigades, and others offer a similar but more global perspective.

 

Experiential Learning

Consider interning with a governmental organization—or NGO—to see how they work with government programming and funding to serve local communities. You can also complete the Certificate in Experiential Learning and Community Engagement.

STU’s Model UN class provides an opportunity to act as a delegate at an international conference, while the John Peters Humphrey Model United Nations allows you to be part of organizing a similar, local event.
