Resumes and Cover Letters
Strong resumes and cover letters communicate your qualifications and accomplishments and set you up for career success.
Resume: A resume is a formal document that provides an overview of your professional qualifications, including your relevant work experience, skills, education, and notable accomplishments. Paired with a cover letter, a resume helps you demonstrate your abilities and convince employers to call you for an interview.
Cover letter: The format is in letter form, and tells the story of who you are, why you are applying for a specific position, what makes you stand out, and showcases your writing skills to potential employers. It should be used to contextualize your resume and give the hiring committee a more well-rounded idea of who you are.
Our Career Development team wants to make sure you have the tools and resources you need to make an effective resume and cover letter. Join us for the Resume and Cover Letter Workshop or send your resume to careerdevelopment@stu.ca for review.

Job Search
There are many aspects to job searching, and we provide the support you need to make this as effortless as possible. Some of our top job search strategies include:
- Exploring – Check job boards such as: Learning in Action, CareerBeacon, Indeed, and LinkedIn while also researching organizations and companies in the industries you are interested in.
- Networking – Make connections with those you have worked and volunteered with, talk to professors, and do informational interviews with potential employers.
- Experiencing – Try different kinds of jobs, take classes in various subjects, complete an internship, and/or study/work abroad. Exploring your interests and understanding what you value in a job/employer is the best (and most fun!) way to help yourself discover the career paths you want to have post-graduation.
