Biography
Craig Proulx was born and raised in Edmonton Alberta, but calls Vancouver “home”. He received his BA from the University of British Columbia, his MA from the University of Western Ontario, and his PhD from McMaster University.
Before coming to STU he worked as the Restorative Justice Coordinator for the eight Metis Settlements in northern Alberta and as a manager in Aboriginal education in Alberta Learning.
His research and teaching interests are rooted in critical, linguistic, legal, and media approaches, exploring a host of issues involving Indigenous peoples in Canada, including urban Indigenous peoples, racism, as well as the anthropology of sport and the anthropology of media.
He is currently researching internet racism of non-indigenous peoples toward Indigenous peoples and in the future, will pursue and ethnography of university faculty union presidents. When not researching and teaching he has been President of the Faculty Association of St. Thomas University and plays some mean acoustic finger-style guitar.
