Dr. Pamela Harquail, BA'75, BT'75

Dr. Pamela Harquail, BA ’75, BT ’75, was the recipient of the 2016 STU Alumni Association Award for Service.

The St. Thomas University Alumni Association Award for Service recognizes the exemplary engagement of St. Thomas alumni in helping advance the aims and objectives of the Alumni Association, and the overall reputation of the university amongst members of the Association.

Dr. Harquail was a teacher at Waasis School in Oromocto when she was granted sabbatical leave to attend St. Thomas University in the fall of 1974. Within 12 months, she had earned both her BA and her BT. She then obtained a master’s degree from UNB, and a doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. She left her teaching position at Waasis to become principal of the New Brunswick Training School and then to become a professor at the University of Tennessee in Nashville.

"Pam is an outstanding professional, mentor, teacher, and friend to many," said Frank McBrearty, President of the STU Alumni Association.

“She can always be seen at reunions greeting old friends and telling stories – in general, just holding court as she often did in her student days.”

Her nominators all echoed her commitment and support to both the university and its alumni.  One comment stated, “Since graduating in 1975, I’ve never known Pam to miss an Alumni Reunion Weekend nor does she miss an opportunity to speak of her days at STU. Additionally, she has encouraged others to attend her alma mater; expressing pride in the institution that launched her into the future she has become. Pam’s passions for the university is clearly and directly linked to her personal experience as a student as St. Thomas.”
