Dr. Patrick Malcolmson has an outstanding record of service that has encompassed every aspect of St. Thomas University. He has twice served as Vice-President Academic and has been Chair of the Department of Political Science, and acting Chair/Director for five other departments. He holds a BEd and MA from the University of Alberta, and a PhD from the University of Toronto. In addition to teaching courses this past year on government and politics, modern political philosophy, and the philosophy of human rights, he served as Acting Chair of the Department of Journalism and Communications and Public Policy. In the past, he served on the University’s Board of Governors, Senate, and Academic Planning Committee, as well as Director of the Atlantic Human Rights Centre. He has been Chair of the New Brunswick Human Rights Commission, served on the Canadian Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission, and been an expert witness before the House of Commons and Senate of Canada. He is the first professor to earn each of St. Thomas University’s faculty merit awards for teaching, research, and service.
